It's a HW 1080, so you probably already know it's good if you've seen the internet at all. On this G2 I don't find the car mode to be anything special, so what seems to be the big selling point is moot for me. Basically adds on-the-fly motor rotation swap and drag brake adjustment. But I wasn't really interested in that anyway. The big difference for me is that the G2 has bolt holes for a 25mm fan to mount to it. HOOOOOOOO dawgy I love me a nice fan mount. Otherwise it seems the same as a 1080. Very smooth low end control for a brushed motor. I'm testing this with the RTR Vanquish motor, it was a big improvement from the 1060 it came with.
If you already have a hobbywing program card, I'd say might as well get this G2 version for the fan mount and the updates they say are in this one that helps it run more efficiently (this doesn't come with a program card). If you don't have the card, I'd get the OG 1080 that comes with. The fan is nice if you run in a really hot area, but doesn't seem necessary in mild weather. And you can always just zip tie a fan to the 1080 heat sink if you need to.
